Day 26: His Love Compels Us

Pastor Ellen Bilsborough
For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that If One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15

When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour we were joined together with HIm in the new birth, we were joined to His death.  We were joined to His rising again.  Sin no longer has a hold on us.  The sinner sins because he is in the world.  A true Christian dies with Christ and will not see death but live forever with Him in glory.

Jesus saved us completely, not partially, and He asks for total commitment from us.  He expects us to fulfill our assignments and be His disciples totally dedicated to Him.  If we are connected to our Father, how can we be anything other than what He is?  What He does, we do.  Where He leads, we go.  Christ’s love compels us to not live for ourselves.   It is what drives us forward.

Sin should repel us.  For a believer to sin is to openly crucify the Son of God again and again.  We belittle the cross when we venture down this path.  It would be as if we were insulting the holy life He laid down for us. I don’t believe that any true Christian wants to sin. He has sent us the comforter who is our helper, strength, advocate and standby. We are not alone.

It’s a true joy to discover that God is not mad at us and that we are His children, because Jesus died for us, “because the blood of Jesus speaks better things.”  Hebrews 12:24  His love today compels us for a life beyond self.  Compel means to use force or pressure.  It is a conscious decision daily to take this thing by force.  He is not returning for a lukewarm church, we must be on fire for Him as never before.
