He is not here, but has risen! Remember how He told you while He was still in Galilee. Luke 24:6
On the first day of the week. This Easter Sunday at early dawn, the word of God beautifully records in the gospel of Luke how women went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had made ready. They found the stone rolled back from the tomb, but when they entered inside they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
I can just imagine them standing there perplexed and wondering what to do about this. Two angels suddenly stood beside them. Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen! Remember how He told you. And they remembered His words. They immediately ran back and told the disciples. I love how God chose to use Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Mary the Mother of James as recorded but it also says and the other women with them. They came back with an awesome report too good to be true and the bible says that they were not believed.
Peter got up and ran to the tomb; and stooping down and looking in, saw the linen clothes alone by themselves, and he went away, wondering about and marveling at what had happened. I love the detail of the word of God. Everything recorded is for our benefit. It goes on to say that very day two of the disciples went away to a village called Emmaus and they were talking with each other about all that had taken place. While they were talking Jesus Himself caught up with them and was already accompanying them. But they didn’t recognize Him. He said to them, “what are you talking about?” They stood there looking sad, and said don’t you know what’s going on about Jesus of Nazareth. It's been three days and some women shocked us and drove us out of our senses. They went to the tomb early but did not find His body. They even said they saw angels, who said He was alive. It wasn’t until Jesus broke bread with them that their eyes were instantly opened and they clearly recognized Him, and then He vanished in front of them.
I encourage you today to take the time to read Luke 24, it’s powerful. If we are not careful Jesus could be right in front of us without us recognizing His presence. We must know Him, is my heart’s desire for each and every one of this special Easter day.
