Day 20: Perfect Peace

Pastor Ellen Bilsborough
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. John 14:27

Peace is our assurance of love from the Father.  I love how Pastor said this past Wednesday night, that we don’t have to ask for peace.  It belongs to every believer the moment we accept Him into our lives as our Lord and Savior.  Romans 5:1 says, Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God.

The peace of God is an inner calm we receive when we put our lives, our cares and trials into our Father’s hands and trust in Him, rely on Him and fully lean on Him.  He is in control, and He wants full control.  He causes all things to work together for our good.  I think we try to figure things out on our own, way too much.  When we take our hands off of our situations and give God full access it will always work out for our good.  He doesn’t withhold good things from us.

Our verse goes on to say “Not as the world gives”.  Everyone is searching for world peace, peace of mind, inner peace.  The world's method is manmade and it will always fail miserably.  But as believers today we already have the peace that Jesus promised us in John 14.  By the way, if you haven’t read John 14, I encourage you to read it today.  I preached this message at GLC recently.  The entire chapter is Jesus speaking to his disciples and three disciples Thomas, Philip and Judas (not escariot) question Him.  It’s good to ask questions.  I love how Jesus reminds all of us.  “Have I not been with you so long and yet you have not known Me.”

Even when we don’t see it, He’s working.  I love that song so much!  God never stops working.  Our little minds can’t comprehend how things come together and work out.  That’s where peace steps in.  It’s a full total reliance and rest in our Father.  We have peace today knowing that our sins are forgiven, that we are connected to God and we will reign with Him forever and ever.
Now that’s peace!
