Day 06: He Is Our Strength

Pastor Ellen Bilsborough
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18

There is so much going on in the world today. I often think about fellow believers all over the world who have been martyred for their faith, pray together in secret and would give anything to have a bible. We have been given so much. What an opportunity we have to spread the good news freely. After much reflection I realize we haven’t suffered much compared to the rest of the world.  Much is required from us.  When we read passages in the Bible we at times can’t understand why prophets like Elijah and other men and women of God had such active power. It’s simple, God heard Elijah because Elijah had heard from God.

Easter is all about the resurrection. Easter is also about His suffering, the price He paid, the work of the Cross. This isn’t preached a lot anymore in churches. We need to get back to preaching the Cross more and more.  We are blessed at GLC with a Pastor who doesn’t hold back on preaching the full gospel. When we know the will of God for our lives, we come immediately to a personal knowledge of the cross because the will of God is the place of blessing.

The Apostle Paul called it “the fellowship of His sufferings." Paul knew about suffering. He was shipwrecked, beaten, tortured, and knew hunger.  I love how he wrote in Philippians 4:11-12.  “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.” Paul reminds us that it is worth it all to the glory which shall be revealed in us.  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Living in full wholehearted obedience brings the cross into the light quicker than anything else.  This is what it truly means to be enlightened.
