WEEKLY SERVICES: Sun 9am & 10:45am | Wed at 7pm | 14494 Cortez Blvd. Brooksville, FL

Dear Church Family,

We are so excited that you are with us on this amazing week of Prayer and Fasting here at Great Life Church.  Thank you for downloading our Great Life App and we encourage you, if you haven't already, to connect with us in our daily Bible reading as we journey through the Bible together in 2022.

What Is Fasting?
Fasting stated simply, is refraining from food for a Spiritual purpose.  Fasting has always been a normal part of a relationship with God, and it brings us deeper and more intimate with God.  We want direction and to be able to hear His voice more clearly.  As a church, as a nation we need to hear from God more now than ever before.

Things To Remember
1. Choose the fast that God is directing you to do.  As a church we are fasting
January 2 - 23rd.  God may lead you to fast longer or shorter.

2.  Choose the type of fast, Daniel Fast, one meal a day, liquids only, water only, etc.

3.  Fasting is not dieting.  Fasting is spiritual and is always accompanied with prayer.

4.  Set aside time for prayer and devotions with the Lord everyday.
Let's read the Bible together as a church.

As we eliminate food from our diet for a number of days our spirits become uncluttered by the things of this world and amazingly sensitive to the things of God.  Psalm 42 is an inspiration to begin every fast. Pastor and I love you all so very much.  We are excited for 2022 and this tremendous joy we have to hear from God together as a church family. Read below for daily devotionals and encouraging scripture.

Love you all,
Pastor Ellen

"Hunger & First"

For me, fasting has always been a way for God to open doors of miraculous provision, favor and blessing upon my life.  It’s birthed out of a genuine desire to get closer to God and know His perfect will for your life. I encourage you to set yourself apart and enjoy this journey together as our GLC family.  Whether it’s 21 days or 7 or 3, do it with all your heart, soul, mind and body.  God looks at the motives and intentions of our hearts. I’m excited to begin 2022 with giving God the first fruits of every part of our lives.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled."  Matthew 5:6

Come Close to God

From my early years, fasting has become a lifestyle.  Each beginning of the New Year we make resolutions we intend to keep and by the course of the month the desire just isn't the same and we let it go.

The foundation for me has always been:
1.  What do I desire most?
2.  What am I doing to fulfill it?

When I don’t sense that deep anointing and find myself going dry, I need a fresh infill. That's when I make the decision to draw near to God.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:

James 4:8  “Come close to God and He will come close to you”

Download this free verse wallpaper available above. Take some time to reflect on the two questions and write them down in your journal. Pray over them throughout this fast that God would allow your desires to line up with His word, and that you would not seek fulfilment from the world.

"Do it in Secret"

There are things God desires to release in our lives.  Our motive should always be to please the Father and not be concerned with who is watching and noticing what we do.  The bible is very clear that what we do in secret shall be rewarded openly.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Read Mathew 6:1-18.  This is a powerful portion of scripture because it talks about the three areas where at times we want to brag about.  It says, when you give, when you pray, and when you fast, do it in secret so that we are not noticed by people.  Our Father who sees what is done in secret will reward us openly.

"Our Connection to Heaven"

What is fasting? It’s not dieting or just simply staying away from food. Fasting is refraining from food for a spiritual purpose. It is a normal part of our relationship with God. Our spirit becomes unclogged by the things of this world and our channel and connection to heaven becomes much more clear.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Psalm 42:7  “Deep calls unto deep”  David was fasting and the result was that he came to a place where he could cry from the deepest part of his heart and connect to God in the middle of the toughest trial of his life.

Thursday, January 6th

"Hear The Voice of God"

There are different types and lengths and reasons for all fasts.  It is recorded that Paul fasted once for three days and Joshua fasted forty days and of course the famous fast of Daniel as he fasted for twenty-one days. Some were without total food and some were with partial food.  It is important to clearly hear the voice of God and He will lead you to what is best for you.  God is not impressed with quantity if we are merely imitating others.  God is impressed with the quality and motive of our hearts.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
“I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food”  Job 23:12

Thursday prayer takes place every week at 10am in our Sanctuary, you're invited to pray with us! If you can't make it in person, set a reminder on your phone to stop and pray at 10:00am today.

Friday, January 7th

"It's not Fasting without Prayer"

If it doesn’t mean that much to you, it won’t mean that much to God either.  I always combine my fasting with prayer.  Prayer is the key, “What do you really want God to do?  Reading the Word of God out loud, quoting scripture back to the Father and reminding Him of His promises is powerful.  He is a covenant keeping God, He never lies and His word is truth.  Fasting and prayer combined with reading this word is a threefold cord that cannot be broken.  I’m excited for us all as we boldly and with authority make our requests known to God.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me, And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  John 10:27-28

Take some time to reflect on these verses. What is God speaking to you today?

"New things in 2022"

On the fun side of things.  I really truly believe that fasting is like a spring cleaning for our physical bodies.  It gives our earthly bodies a break especially after all the sweets, pies and cakes after Christmas.  (I believe it also slows down the ageing process.)  What we put into our bodies affects our daily lives.  A cleansing and a purging on the physical side is always a good thing.  We get the double blessing of not only getting closer to God but also we are taking care of the temple to be able to accomplish much more for the Kingdom.  Our mobility and strength physically and spiritually will be stronger.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
God wants to pour “new things” into us.  New revelation, new creativity etc.  This verse beautifully articulates this.

Mark 2:22 “No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will bust the skins, and the wine is lost as well as the wineskins.  But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”

What is God asking you to renew in 2022?

Sunday, January 9th

"Giving Honor in our Fasting"

When we honor and worship God by presenting our bodies as living sacrifices through fasting, we can be sure that God will begin to reveal His assignments for our lives.  We are all here for a divine purpose.  We were created to love and be loved.  To have a clear picture of what God wants to do through us and how He wants to use us is absolutely thrilling to me.  We are declaring to God “not my will be done, but yours God, it’s all about You”.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Galatians 2:20  “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

"Judah Rise"

I absolutely love our theme this year “Judah Rise”.  2 Chronicles declares that all of Judah fasted, even the women and the children.  They desperately needed to know the Lord’s plan to defeat this great enemy army.  In the middle of their fast God clearly spoke to His people through a prophet, who encouraged them saying “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

As we pray, fast, praise, give, worship and put God first in everything it will be a mighty “Judah Rise” year and God promises to fight every battle for us.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:

2 Chronicles 20:17 “O Judah and Jerusalem! Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

What does "Judah Rise" mean to you? Take some time to journal and reflect on this year's theme.

"Fasting Releases God's Power"

The enemy hates it when we fast.  When we make decisions to get closer to God and do more than going to church on Sunday, he will try over and over again to distract us from reading God’s word and praying.  Why?  Because he knows that fasting releases God’s power.  He already knows he’s defeated but he doesn’t want us to know it or to walk in that realm of God’s power.  That’s why it’s so critical for him to distract us.  Don’t give him any room or allow him in your life to cause you to focus more on your appetite or circumstances than on the promises of God.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:

John 10:10  The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

"The Channel of Heaven"

As a body, our Great Life Church family, when we all fast together over the next few days, whether it be three days, seven days or twenty one days, know that God is honored and He rewards that sacrifice corporately and individually.  You will begin to see great miracles even in the middle of fasting.  God is moving quickly and I believe it will be a year where we will see mighty blessings of provisions and healings as never before.  When the channel to heaven is clear as God speaks to us don’t be surprised if you will be led to extend your fast and draw closer.  Let’s be obedient to all that He has in store for us. It’s so exciting to me because His words are true and His promises are real.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:

Psalm 34:8-9  “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;  Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh fear the Lord, you His saints!  There is no want to those who fear Him.

Thursday, January 13th

"We all deserve to be free."

Fasting is personal.  It is a private discipline.  It is a sacrifice we individually make.  When we fast we expect miracles.  We expect God to move on our behalf.  Health and healing will flollow fasting.  Fasting humbles us and brings clarity into our lives.  If we have unforgiveness and bitterness in our hearts, God will show us and the Holy Spirit will come to our aid to make things right.  We all deserve to be free.  If we can’t forgive it will only keep us bound and not in victory.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
The verse today is so powerful because when we are healed and free we will grow speedily!  So awesome!

Isaiah 58:8 God said “Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily.”

"Breaking Through Spiritually"

Our physical lives can delay what God is trying to do through us spiritually.  We can become so busy day to day with work and running around being busy.  I strongly believe that if we set ourselves apart from the every day cares of life, God will honor that.  We can attend church and it be “just church”.   As we fast and pray we will come closer to Him.  When you hunger for God, He will fill you.  When you hunger for more, you will receive more.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

"Pleasing The Father"

Many times the rewards of fasting come after the fast,  though from time to time answers can come during the fast.  When we have lack of control over our flesh, it opens the door for sin’s temptation.  Jesus took control over His flesh and showed us that fasting is powerful.  When He fasted for forty days and nights, He knew it was a key to opening a door of God’s blessings.

He pleased His Father.  Fasting pleases my Father.  I trust in Him to lead me and guide me every step of the way.  Whether your miracle comes before, during or after the fast, rejoice because it is coming.  Have faith in God

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Hebrews 11:39-40 “And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.”

"The Story of Anna"

I am more excited about fasting than I ever have been.  Hungering for God brings a greater reward than giving into the cravings we may have from day to day.  Let’s face it some of us will crave sugar and others like myself crave salty snacks all the time.  The beauty of fasting is that we get to surrender all of that and show the Lord we mean business.  We are serious about our pursuit of HIm.  I love the simple little story of Anna in the bible.  It records her story in Luke.

She is a widow of about eighty-four years of age who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.  We are never too old to fast.  Anna had a hunger for God rather than food and her faithfulness in fasting prepared her for what she was about to witness.  Anna saw Jesus after He was born along with Simeon in the temple.  What an honor.  When she saw Him she instantly gave thanks to God.  Shen then became an evangelist at eighty-four telling all of Israel about the tiny baby who was the Messiah.  We just witnessed a new calling on her life.  This should get you all excited because as we fast, stand back and see what God is going to do in your life.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Matthew 5:6  “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:  for they shall be filled”

We pray this story about Anna blesses you and encourages you to dig deeper in God's word and learn about characters that you may not know much about.

"He Is Fighting For You"

When the Holy Spirit leads us to fast, He is preparing us and getting us ready for the days, weeks and months ahead.  It’s my heart’s desire to please the Father.  I know as you read this that that is your desire as well.  If you want to please God, then believe Him and take Him at His word.  No matter what our circumstances are, or what we face daily, we can rest assured that if we put our trust in the Father, He will fight for us, and strengthen us daily.

“Even when we don’t see it He’s working.  Even when we don’t feel it He’s working”.  I love that song.  I sing it all the time, and pray these very words every day.  I feel my faith grow when I speak the word of God boldly out loud.  It’s really as simple as taking charge of your fears and getting rid of them because we are not led by what we see or feel.  Faith pleases our Father.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
2 Corinthians 5: 7  “We walk by faith, not by sight’”

Write down this verse, what does it mean to you right now?

"Being led by the Spirit in your fasting"

During this fast we are starving our flesh and feeding our spirits.  Sounds difficult.  It is; and the reward is incredible.  Fasting helps you separate what you want from what you need.  It causes us to focus on those things that really are important and matter in our lives.  It’s hard work when we do something rewarding and refuse to stop.

We are surrounded by food all the time, and are tempted to break the fast.  That’s normal, and don’t punish yourself if you have a meal.  Push past the guilt and be led by the Holy Spirit.  If we diligently make decisions to seek Him, and push past our flesh, God promises us great rewards.  I don’t know about you, but I would much rather have HIs rewards then be seen by people.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Hebrews 11:6  “God is a rewarder of them who diligently seek HIm.”

"A New Compassion Will Spring Forth"

For the past two years the world around us has been hit with uncertain times.  When we lose loved ones it can take us back and knock the wind out of us.  It’s like a hard hit when someone close to you dies. I love this passage of scripture so much, it has always been a strength to me.

Psalms 121:1-4  “I will lift up my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help?  My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.  He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.  Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand.  The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.  The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;  He shall preserve your soul.  The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.”

This is the last thing I read to my father before he passed away seventeen years ago.  It was a tremendous time of grief for our family.  God never left us, and He always brought us comfort.  As we fast and pray, we will be led to pray for others.  You will begin to take on their grief and burden, and as we lift one another up in prayer; suddenly what we thought was so important doesn’t really matter anymore.  Self is depleted and we begin to see people the way God sees them.  A new compassion and love will spring forth from us.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:

What are some areas of your life where God is opening up your eyes? How is He changing your perspective through fasting. Take some time to reflect on these questions and write them in your journal.

"Breaking The Heaviness"

I believe fasting breaks the spirit of heaviness.  When depression tries to come on us we tend to fill that void with things in the world.  Bad habits start to form, especially unhealthy habits.  The word of God says to put on the garment of praise.  I love our theme this year “Judah Rise”  The tribe of Judah were praisers.  There is power when we praise, and that’s exactly why the enemy wants us silent.

Why is it a "garment of praise?"
Depression is like a heavy, itchy wool cloak of despair and hopelessness.  Heaviness is a drain, but God promises us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light.   A heavy garment keeps us away from praise, it keeps our hands down.  But praise lifts our hands high.  We look up always and hold our head high,  for a brighter day is always ahead.  That’s the beauty of our Faith in God.  Fasting releases and breaks that spirit that tries to invade us.  All of this that He may be glorified.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Isaiah 61:3  “To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Join us today at 10:00am for Weekly Prayer in our Sanctuary. During this one hour we call on God and believe for mighty breakthrough, His presence is always tangible when we come together in agreement. You're invited!

"Living Like Jesus"

If Jesus fasted, why would we ever think we should not fast?  There is no record of Jesus ever healing anyone until He returned from the forty days of fasting that launched His earthly ministry.  Jesus said we would do even greater works than He had done, because He was returning to the Father.  If Jesus did not begin to minister before fasting, how can we?

God is raising up people who are willing to dedicate their lives to Him and diligently seek Him through our time of prayer and fasting.  I love this passage of scripture because in all our ways we want to please our Father and walk worthy in our calling.  Always being abundantly fruitful.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Colossians 1:10-12  “ That you may have a walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power; for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the

"Where Is My Miracle?"

There may be times when you feel you are fasting and praying and standing strong in your faith, but yet still feel like something is missing and not much seems to be happening.  Where is my miracle?

Do not be discouraged.  God gives us the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.  There are times when we don’t feel like praying.  But pray anyway.  God will reward our diligence as we push past our flesh.  You will be amazed how God will show up and it will be like all of heaven has come down and the glory has filled your soul.  It’s so worth it to push past our flesh, our feelings, and our emotions.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Psalms 35: 13-14 “ I humbled myself with fasting; and my prayer would return to my own heart.”

"Fasting Pleases The Father"

When we fast our focus is on God.  Our appearance should be normal and not draw any attention to ourselves.  Our treatment of others, our actions and our temperament should be to be a blessing to others.  When the needs of others are on our hearts, I truly believe God sees that and blesses us.

One of my favorite passages of scripture on fasting is Isaiah 58.  The Israelites were wondering why they weren’t getting any results from their so-called fasting.  It was all about them.  But God reminds of the kind of fast that pleases Him.

I am so thrilled Great Life family that you have taken this journey with me.  For some of you this is the last day of fasting.  However long you fast is personal, and I am so excited for you and am expecting great miracles in the days and months ahead.

Pastor Ellen
Today's Scripture:
Isaiah 58:8-9 “Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.  Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry; and He will say, “HERE I AM”
